We have been super busy for the last few weeks making lots of soap for our fall festival season. We just love this time of year! We will be at the Quartz Quiltz & Craftz Festival in Mount Ida AR on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 9th-11th. Always a fun time! We have also added our handmade goat milk soap to a new shop in Hot Springs AR. We are so happy to have our soap at All Things Arkansas in downtown Hot Springs. Just in case you are not close enough to pick up our soap at one of these locations, I have just updated the online store so please go check it out.

Our first cheese making workshop was a great success! Everyone had a great time and went home with yummy homemade cheese. July and August cheese making workshops are full and we are looking forward to them both. We are hoping to offer some other workshops in the future with topics ranging from gardening, livestock care and some basics on beekeeping. If you are interested in any of these topics or have some other ideas please let us know. We will post workshops with dates and times on the website and on our Facebook page.

Fresh goat milk has so many uses. Here on the mini farm we use it for everything. We make soap, lotion and shampoo bars with our goat milk that is so great for your skin and hair. We make chevre and whole milk ricotta cheeses that are so delicious. Homemade vanilla ice cream from fresh goat milk can't be beat, I promise you. We make the fluffiest biscuits and the creamiest gravy ever. If you haven't tried fresh goat milk you really should. For those that are interested we sell here from the farm. Please contact us for availability.

Our class for July is already full but another is being planned for August so please contact us if interested in attending.
The gardens are finally coming along. Tomato plants are looking beautiful. They are blooming and loading up with little tomatoes. It will not be long until there will be tomatoes to harvest. Our squash, cucumbers, peas and beans are also coming along nicely.
Baby goats have all gone to their new homes except for Bella and Mollie who we are keeping here at the farm. It sure is quite around here with all of them gone. believe it or not I miss the chaos but there will be even more next year.
Well kidding season is finally over for us. So glad that it is done and all the mamas and babies are doing so well! Even though the waiting is so hard, there is nothing like the moment that little baby goat is born and being there and helping mama clean them up and helping them get their first meal. It really is a special moment for us with these goats that we love so much. Would not trade it for anything!!!
All the babies are up and going full speed ahead. So fun to watch them run and jump and climb all over their mamas. They make everyday a fun day. You can not go out with them and not have a smile on your face. It will not be long before we are milking all these sweet mamas. We will have five girls that we will be milking this year. We will have plenty of milk to put away in the freezer for soap making and for lotion, for making cheese and ice cream and yogurt and for having fresh milk to drink. We should have more milk than we can use, so we hope to have milk for sale here from the mini farm. We will keep everyone posted on our Facebook page when we have milk available. We will be keeping two of the little doelings here with us as part of our herd. Bella and Mollie are well on their way to being spoiled rotten just like the rest of our girls and boys. All of the other babies have been spoken for also except for one little boy. We know we will find him the perfect home before long.
Well kidding season is in full swing now! Babies being born mostly in the middle of the night makes for some pretty exhausted farmers but in the end it is all worth it! First was Millie, she had her babies a week early and unfortunately only one survived out of the four that she had. Heartbreaking for us but let me tell you the one little girl that did survive is an angel. Her name is Mollie and she is staying in the house with us until her mama starts getting around better. We take her out several times a day to visit her mama and to eat which makes Millie very happy.
Next comes Daisy! Daisy had beautiful twin girls. We decided to name them flower names like their mama, Shasta Daisy & Marigold. They are sweet as can be and up and bouncing around at just 2 days old. Sunday evening we realized these babies were having some problems nursing. We checked Daisy and her milk was not letting down properly for them She has a conjested udder that we are treating with hot compresses and massaging her udder. It has already helped some. We will continue this treatment for a few more days until milk is letting down like it should. Daisy is such a good girl. She trusts Tommy to do anything.
Next on the kidding schedule is Iris and Joy. They will be our last two for the season. So excited to see what they have. This will be both of these girls first time to kid. We expect Iris to have just one but we are fairly sure that Joy will at least have twins. Honestly we will not be surprised if she has triplets.
We will have several kids for sale in a couple months. They will be ready for their new homes once they are weaned. At this time we have Bocephus, Shasta and Marigold available. More will be available once Iris and Joy kid. If you are interested please send us a message. You can reserve with a deposit so you don't miss out on these sweethearts.
Sweet little Bella and Bo are 2 weeks old today! My how time flies! They have both doubled their birth weight and are active and so full of energy. They went on a road trip yesterday to be disbudded by friends who are experienced in doing this procedure. They were so good the whole trip. They both rode in my lap on the way and rode in the back seat area on the way home. Perfect angels!
Daisy is due to kid this week. We are expecting her to kid on Wednesday. We put her in her birthing stall this evening and she will be there until she has her babies. She liked having her food to herself and not having to share with the others. Silly girl!
Millie, Joy and Iris are all due to kid the next week. We are going to have baby goats everywhere! Looking forward to having all these little ones running and playing here on the farm. We will be posting pictures of all the new babies as they are born. Stay tuned!!!
We have been busy updating the online store with all of our new products. We are so excited to add our goat milk lotion and our goat milk shampoo bars to our line of products. You can now go to our shop products page on our website and order our soaps, lotions, shampoo bars and lip balms. We have also added some new soaps that we are excited about. We have added 3 new scrub varieties, cucumber melon scrub, just goat milk scrub and orange spice scrub. These 3 varieties have ground loofah added for exfoliation. We also offer lavender rosemary with dried, ground rosemary and oatmeal and honey with ground oatmeal. Any of these are great for exfoliating and making your skin soft and smooth.
We are looking forward to kicking off our show/festival season next month. We will be setting up April 10th, 11th,& 12th at the Amity Trade Days in Amity Arkansas. Hope you can come out and see us and check out our products and all the other vendors that are offering some pretty great stuff. Parking at the trade days is $2.00 but admission is free. It is a great event that we hope you can all come and experience. Our next festival will be Caddo Riverfest in Glenwood Arkansas on April 24th & 25th. This is also a fun event with vendors, car show and live entertainment. This is a free event and fun for the whole family. We look forward to this time of year and being out and meeting so many great people.
Busy Busy Busy!!! We are rushing around and working late to get ready for our first event this year with our goat milk soap. Boxes we ordered were delayed in shipping because of weather so we are behind on getting everything packaged. We will be at the Ladies Night out this Thursday in Mount Ida AR. We always enjoy this event. Lots of good people, good food and good information on breast cancer awareness. We will have our handmade goat milk soap, beeswax lip balm and we will be introducing our goat milk shampoo bars and our goat milk lotion. We are so excited about these new products. We love them and know you will too!
Our sweet baby goats are doing great! Bo and Bella are growing so fast. Hard to believe they are 1 1/2 weeks old. They both have gained over 2 pounds since they were born. They love to run and jump and play, play play! We will have more babies in just about a week. We are just so excited. We will have more babies this year than we have ever had. Should be interesting! |
